Questions |
| 1. Is this like a lifejacket?
No, it is not a government approved flotation device. It is a swimming aid. It must be used with adult supervision. A life jacket is too bulky to
allow the child free movement to swim. It holds the child vertically
in the water. It usually pushes up under the arms and restricts head
movement, making any mobility difficult. It most certainly is not
comfortable to play in.
| 2. What happens in the water when my
child is wearing the suit? The suit is designed to place the child in a horizontal swimming position. The degree to which the child will be horizontal will depend somewhat on his/her weight within the weight range of the size worn. Some swim aids place the child more vertically and hence makes it more difficult for the child to swim. JELLY BELLIES SWIMSUITS ARE NOT A LIFE-SAVING DEVICE, AND ALL CHILDREN MUST BE CLOSELY SUPERVISED IN THE WATER. A child under one year of age will need your help in keeping his/her head out of the water and can probably float unassisted on his/her back. A child one-two years of age will probably only need your hands to hang on to as they learn to kick and splash. A child two or over is probably ready to go it alone. The suit will make it easier to keep afloat and use their energies to swim and play.
| 3. Is the foam removable? Yes. As the child becomes more comfortable in the water you remove one foam at a time. The child will become less dependent upon the swimsuit thus allowing them to learn how to swim. 4. Do you take the panels out when your out of the water? No, that's the whole
point. This suit is designed to be comfortable enough to play in
too! | |
| 5. Do you remove the panels to clean
them?
NO. DO NOT REMOVE THE
PANELS, since they are very
difficult to insert again. If sand gets into the pockets, you simply
hold open the pockets and run cold or warm water through
them. | |
| 6. How do I care for the suit?
As you would care for
any top-quality bathing suit. We recommend rinsing in cold or warm
water after use and hanging to dry.
| 7. Doesn't this give the child a false sense of
security in the water?
Think of Jelly Bellies as
"training wheels" for swimming. As with anything, it is up to the
parent to teach responsibility in the water. The goal of this
product is NOT to allow unsupervised
swimming. It is to be used only as an aid for both parent and
child. We believe building a child's confidence in the water is a
positive thing and that this product helps by making a new, sometimes
scary skill, a breeze to learn!
| 8. What sizes does it come in?
Jelly Bellies come in sizes 1-2
year, 3 year, 4 year, 5 and 6-7 year. To know which size to buy we
recommend the following: a 3 year old child should wear a size 3
year swimsuit, etc.; however, if the child is heavier than average or
taller, the next size up is best.
| 9. What styles does it come in?
There is a girls suit and a boys
suit. The boys suit is a full-body swimsuit, thus improving
protection from the sun.
| 10. What's so special about Jelly
Bellies?
Everything! The materials, patterns and quality of workmanship cannot be beat.
